Getting ready for this exciting trip to Roatan.

Travel Date August 2022

DAY 0 🇭🇳 (4 minute read – be sure to follow the series)

The prep before go time! Anytime I (we I should say, because I travel with my family or a group) it is always extremely important to research my destination.  This is my second trip to Roatan, Honduras however the big difference was the first was pre-pandemic.  So especially now, it is really important to look up a few things before just jumping on a plane. So glad I did! So much has changed since COVID came about.  Honduras, at least Roatan, is open for tourists but there is a process to go through now. It was similar to our trip to the Bahamas (enjoy the upcoming read on our family Bahamas trip to the Atlantis Resort back in May of 2022).

If you are vaccinated, bring proof. If you’re not vaccinated, bring a negative COVID test within the last 72 hours, antigen test works fine. I could not find my vaccine card and everywhere I researched said a “digital copy” would not be valid, so I doubled down.  I took a printed copy of my “digital card” (just a photo I took with my phone) and I also got a rapid antigen test. An easy drive through at Walgreens was all I did, the day before travel and received my results within the hour.

Also, it is necessary to fill out the online travel forms for entry. You can find everything here https://anthonyskey.com/honduras-entry-requirements/ .  The two main forms are the “Immigration Online Precheck” and the “Health Form”.

I warn you though, save some time and patience for these forms! I struggled through them for sure, but I flipped back and forth between Spanish and English as they do not always translate properly.  For the “PreCheck” you can download the app, however they recommend doing the online version (I chose the app).

The Health Form is online, and the Precheck app does not direct you there after completing that form, so go back to the Anthony’s Key website and click the link.

Make sure you have your Digital Vaccination/Negative Test Results & Passport available to upload when completing these forms.

Finding the correct province is key, entry was through Juan Manual Gavez (airport), and Roatan is in the Isla de La Bahia (Bay Islands) province. I found out the hard way don’t fill these forms out in advance if you do not have all your documents ready.  Although it has a save option, it did not save, and will NOT be validated until your COVID vaccine/test is uploaded, along with your passport. It definitely helped having a group of us traveling to sort through what the correct answers were.

I chose American Airlines, so be sure to look at your restrictions and requirements. The AA app was good to have so I could be directed easily to what I needed to complete. There is a new app airlines are using called “Verifly”…

I wish I would have completed this in advance; however, it was simple enough and I had everything uploaded and completed by the time I reached Miami (but I think it was too late, but it definitely helped on the way home). This app almost duplicates what you did for the Honduras entry requirements, but it is for the airline purposes to verify you have completed the requirements necessary for travel. Completing this process was recommended but not required, but having it completed made a difference, more about that on Day 1!!

If you intend to travel to Roatan anytime soon, feel free to leave a comment below and I will help you through as much as I can!

Safe travels to you all!!
